Mom’s Guide for Easy Meal Planning

Mom’s are busy ladies! Between making sure the kids have everything they need, spending time with hubby, working in our own careers and (of course!) taking care of ourselves, there just doesn’t seem to be enough hours in the day. Sometimes we just need a little help. That’s why we have created this quick, easy guide for meal planning.

Here are our suggestions for easy meal planning:

 

Make a Plan

Spend one day thinking through your week. What activities do you have planned? If little Johnny has a soccer meet on Thursday, what kind of meal can you pre-prepare on that day? How many meals do you actually have to plan for? What is the weather supposed to be like? Sometimes a cold and dreary day makes you want comfort food, while warm and sunny days will warrant a lighter meal. How many lunches should you plan for? Tally up how many dinners, lunches and the like that you need to prepare, then move to the next step…

Prepare a List

It’s easy to get into a recipe rut, but once you get into the routine of planning a few meals during the week, you can quickly start incorporating new meal ideas. Search out new recipes. Some of our favorite resources for healthy recipes are:

On a piece of paper, add the day of the week to the left column and meals for that day in the right column. Start a concurrent list on another sheet of paper that includes the ingredients from the meals you are planning. To make shopping easier, you can section off the paper into departments- put the meat items in one section, produce in another and so on. Next to the meal on the first piece of paper, make a note of where you sourced it so when the time comes to make it, you’ll be able to easily find it again.

Go Shopping

Pick a time to shop for the week. You can plan your shopping outing during peak sale time, when the bins are freshly stocked or during a typical “down” time to beat the crowds. It just depends on what your preferences are. Believe it or not, there is actually a science to grocery shopping! Learn more about that here.
